To everything there is a season

(outside)

(inside)

"To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Techinically, Christmas is NOT a season. It falls just this side of the winter equinox; thus it is observed during the winter season. However, we do refer to the "Christmas Season" as well as the "Easter Season" within Christian religions. Basically, the word "season" is used to define and describe weather changes that occur as the earth rotates and the climate changes. As Christians, we've accepted the winter month of December as the month chosen to celebrate and honor the birth of Jesus. There is a litergical season of change leading up to and after the event known as Christmas (likewise with Easter); thus we use the term the Christmas Season.

I used that liberal definition of season when making my card for this week's challenge at Twist of Faith. The image I was given contained the tree ornament in place of the letter O, so it was only befitting to that I go with the Christmas "season" as my theme.

I tried something a bit new (for me) in that I cut out the front of my card so that my image showed through from the inside. Despite having taught Math at one time, I don't tend to be "mechanical," so I was rather pleased (and relieved) that I was able to get the inside and outside to work together. I'm sure there is an easier way to do this technique, and it is my plan to play with it a bit more when I have some time and see if I can figure it out because my sweet Hubs liked this card and wants me to do more of them for us to mail out this year.

I printed my image along with the verse under it onto white card. I should have moved my verse down a bit more so that it wasn't quite so close to my main image, so I've learned that from this experience. I paper pieced the image with various bits of Christmasy patterned paper. I then matted them onto green paper. My card is from a package of card bases (green on the outside and white on the inside). I used a spellbinder rectangle die to cut out the area on the front of the card. The white dove and the pine boughs are chipboard and are by K&Company. The verse on the front was typed, cut out and matted before adhering to the front of the card.

This card is my DT card for Twist of Faith challenges. Usually I type the information about the blog and the challenge before sharing this information about my card. I've switched a bit this time (and hope you've stuck with me to this point) because I wanted to talk about Twist of Faith. This is a new challenge blog -- the brain and heart child of the founder of the Card Crafter's Circle weekly challenge blog. Pauline knew there were other Christian based challenges available to the card makers, but she felt led to start yet another one. It is her hope that the TOF blog will allow people to share uplifting encouragement to others in their crafts. TOF has had a slow beginning -- there were only three entries this past week in the challenge. This was a bit disheartening to Pauline and the DT members who share their beautiful work, words and heart as inspiration.

Pauline has worked hard to line up wonderful sponsors and prizes for our challenge winners, and the only requirements for the challenges are for you to make a card that depicts the them (this week seasons) and to add either a Bible verse OR an uplifting/encouraging sentiment (either outside or inside). This week our random prize winner will receive their choice of 2 digi images from the Pholkart Blessings Etsy Shop.

Please, as you are in your craft room this week consider visiting the Twist of Faith blog and creating a warm, uplifting card to share with us and also to send to a special friend. It will be a double blessing.

  1. First of all, Jenee, I'd like to say "thank you" for posting about our lovely challenge blog, Twist of Faith.....I'm thoroughly enjoying creating with the lovely artwork that we get to play with, as part of the Design Team, and being "in" on all the hard work that Pauline and the rest of the team put into each and every post.
Secondly, I am so impressed with your precious card....and not only because it's a Christmas creation....hahaa! I just love the way the window frames that lovely focus image.....I would not have attempted to produce the frame from scratch, so that's a reason to be impressed, right there....but the dove and the pretty papers make this a really likeable card.
